Lübeck, 1400
This Lübeck lead seal was found together with 4 seals from Riga in Läckö Castle in Västergötland. The seal bears on one side a shield with a double-headed eagle, which is the coat of arms of the North German city of Lübeck. The other side of the seal is adorned with an S with an associated star to the left.
Lead seals were used as a guarantee mark for goods (often textiles) and were used in trade both nationally and internationally.
